Us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> University of Texas Inequality Project data series on <strong>in</strong>equality <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
world system s<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> 1960s, based on solid pay data, we arrive at <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />
world map of time series correlations with <strong>in</strong>equality. The real explosion of pay<br />
<strong>in</strong>equality <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> European East has to be noted. Still, <strong>the</strong> share of <strong>the</strong> poorest<br />
20% <strong>in</strong> total <strong>in</strong>comes <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> US is lower than <strong>in</strong> most European countries (except<br />
<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> former USSR, see our data based on UNDP sources). Eastern Europe was<br />
<strong>the</strong> region which most rapidly globalized and which had <strong>the</strong> most rapid<br />
tendency towards <strong>in</strong>equality at <strong>the</strong> same time:<br />
