Technical Data
The range covered by the term "Computer Based Training" can be classified by the degree of interactivity.
Limited possibilities for interaction are offered by "Presentation Systems" (e.g. multimedia encyclopaedias,
world maps etc.). Interactions are limited to the navigation (control interaction) within the multimedia
content.
A medium degree of interaction is offered by "Tutorial Systems". In these systems the control interaction
is combined with didactical interaction.
A complex degree of interaction is reached with "Simulation Systems", which reproduce a model of reality
and permits less risk trials. In the context of Computer Based Training (CBT) for the EC135, the
term "CBT" is to be understood as "Tutorial System".
All learning content is displayed on the screen. The trainee can navigate through the content by using
control elements in the footer of the screen. The provided information is edited with respect to the used
medium, i.e. using multimedia technologies. Spoken text explains the learning content and guides the
trainee during reception of the shown graphics and animations. The combination of different code systems
(graphics, spoken text, written text etc.), received through different channels of perception increases
the effectiveness of learning.
Figure 7.2: Example of the Tutorial System
CBT focuses on the trainee; the requirements and possibilities of the trainee are to be considered. Although
an implementation of CBT in a classroom environment is possible, CBT studies are individual
studies. The CBT enables the trainee to proceed at his own pace and to repeat or skip learning content
due to his own requirements. Independent learning of fixed schedules or specified rooms is made possible
by the use of portable computers.
CAI
The CAI (Computer Aided Instruction) product family was designed by Eurocopter as a powerful training
system for the operators of Eurocopter helicopters. The training system is intended to be used by
pilots and technicians of the helicopter types EC135, EC635 and EC145.
