RCBD “may be acceptable provided that appropriate
justification for using them is given”.
• EuropaBio Members agree that, in circumstances
where a good reason for blocking exists, an RCBD is
an appropriate choice.
• However, in the absence of a known blocking
structure, a completely randomised design (CRD) is
the most obvious choice and indeed is likely to be
slightly more powerful than an RCBD.
