2. Presentation of results on
the standardised scale
• Given that all endpoints are to be analysed and presented on
the scale of original units, EuropaBio Members question the
need to also present results on the standardised scale.
– “If the original units of measurement are meaningful, the presentation
of unstandardised effect statistics is preferable over those of
standardised effect statistics”. (Nakagawa and Cuthill, 2007)
• Original units are meaningful to trained toxicologists.
– “If researchers are familiar with their study systems, or abundant
previous research on a topic of interest exists, effect sizes in original
units are more readily interpretable than standardised effect statistics”.
(Nakagawa and Cuthill, 2007)
• The study system is familiar to trained toxicologists and the basis of
decades of previous research.
