The National Committee of the European
Youth Parliament in Bulgaria
In 2003 Bulgaria was welcomed to join the family of countries represented in the
European Youth Parliament. The first Bulgarian delegation participated at the 45th
International Session of the EYP in Durham/Newcastle, UK, 24th March - 4th April
2004.
The Bulgarian Committee of the European Youth Parliament was officially registered
as a non-profit organisation in Bulgaria in 2004. All those who are involved in
the running of the Bulgarian National Committee do so voluntarily, with the help
of EYP alumni, teachers, and other interested people. Our aim is to give the new
generation the chance to understand what EYP is about. One way to do this is by
selecting delegations from distinguished and enthusiastic students to represent Bulgaria
at the International sessions of the EYP. With this aim each year EYP – Bulgaria
organizes its own National Selection Sessions.
Activities in 2008
Third National Selection Conference
August 8 - 11 in Sofia, with the motto
“Explore the colourful Europe”. Around
60 students from all over the country
(Sofia, Rousse, Bourgas, Varna, Dimitrovgrad,
Kazanlak, Shabla) took part in the
event, competing for a place in the
delegations that EYP – Bulgaria is sending
to the International Sessions in 2008
and 2009 and other events on national
and regional level. For the first time there
was a strong presence of international
guests from Romania, Turkey, Serbia,
Portugal, Croatia and Austria.
Other Events in 2008
The first EYP Bulgaria Chair/
Journo Training Session “ENJOY
US” (Experienced N’ Junior Official
Youth United in Sofia) - took place
May 9 - 11 in the beautiful National
Park of Vitosha just outside the capital
of Bulgaria – Sofia. The purpose of the
training was to help EYP BG alumni
prepare for their future positions of
officials on National EYP Conferences
and other EYP events. Apart from the
EYP Bulgaria trainees there were
international participants attending
the event with the aim of learning
something more from their experienced
EYP colleagues.
EYP Bulgaria and Friends Spring
Ball May 11, Sofia
EYP Bulgaria National Student Essay
Contest – January 2008 – on the topic
“50 Years have passed with the EU.
What do you expect from the Union
in the next half a century? ”, followed
by an interview. The aim was to select
delegations for various EYP events.
