specialization might need to be applied. Maybe the
presence of hospital that specializes in infection,
pulmonary or psychology trauma, etc, will help hospitals
to deliver more intensive healthcare services. In order to
achieve all the above, some hospitals might have to modify
their vision and mission, as well as their master plans, etc.
A question of the possibility to have a private practice in
Banda Aceh in the future was asked by doctors here since
there are still many infrastructures that need to be built
and many of Banda Aceh residents with strong financial
background have moved to other cities. We need to
analyze this matter thoroughly before setting the role of a
hospital in an area in the future.
Third, it is needed to identify all available healthcare
services, besides hospital, such as private clinics, public
health centres, etc. After the tsunami, several intact private
hospitals were actively giving their hands to help the
victims for free.
Fourth, we need to put all the effort to encourage the
activation of self sufficient hospitals that operate with local
capacity, manpower as well as the facilities and the
infrastructures. Let the local manpower be the backbone of
the hospitals. External parties such as the central
government, other provinces and countries will only
support and complement the hospitals’ operation. All
parties should show their optimal support in order for our
colleagues in Aceh to work at their optimum capacity.
Fifth, due to Aceh’s limited condition, “sister hospital”,
a joint operation between a hospital in Aceh and another
hospital outside Aceh, can be formed. The sister hospital
will have the responsibility of helping its “sister” in Aceh
to deliver healthcare services for Aceh people who are in
need of excellent hospital services.
The experience in managing hospitals right after the
tsunami was a valuable and enriching experience. It really
enhances our knowledge in hospital management which at
the end will accomplish in excellent healthcare services for
the people. ❑
