Carry, some tape in your car to temporarily stop radiator leaks
If a radiator hose, heater
hose or bypass hose should
road, tape am be used to stop
• Then If a hose breaks, Just
wait for the engine to cool for
a few minutes, until the
pressure Is released through
ttie leak. Loosen the radiator
cap so pressure won't build up
If you don't have tape,
paper around the hose and
. then wrap the paper and how
have) registers "hot," stop
for about half an hour to let
fee engine cool. Don't drive
with that "hot" light on,
because, you could cause
serious damage to your car,
The cooling system is one of
fee most important parts of
fee automobile and the heart
of that system Is the water
pump.
When the water pump
malfunctions it can create
major problems. So it Is
important to be aware of fee
clues that might Indicate
water pump problems,
Usually there are three
major Indications:
Noise; Generally located
around the water pump
pulley, A good way to isolate
tfiis problem is to use a
stethoscope, a broom handle
or wood dowel rod as a
listening device,
—Coolant leakage: The
water pump usually is
equipped wife a drain hole,
Men leakage occurs past the
water pump seal it will drip
from the water pump housing.
This drain hole is located at
the bottom of the water pump
housing and will usually leak
when flie engine is running.
—Waterpump bearing
fatigue: Usually the water
pump bearing will create
noise and an overheating
problem when it deteriorates.
The bearing can* be checked
by a simple method. Grab fee
fan blade by the top and
bottom and shake :— ezcessive
play will Indicate •
bearing failure.
Keep in mind that you could
have a bad water pump
bearing without having,,a
leak, and you can have a
leaking water pump seal
without a bearing failure. But,
regardless of the problem, is
still Is necessary to replace
fee water pump.
