PRINTER
Now your 80 8O column CBM (or any PET/CBM) / can drive your choice of high quality printers
for word processing. The NEC Spinwriter and
Anderson-Jacobson AJ841 can be driven as well
as any other ASCII Parallel-input printer such as
Centronics. Centronics, Integral Data and Anadex. It's a
major step step in making your PET/CBM / the most
useful office or home appliance you have.
A printer is required for any business system
and is the most desirable peripheral for any
hobbyist. You know what printer you want and
can think of a thousand things to do with it--
The P.I.E. is an interface to connect any
parallel-input printer to your PET using the
IEEE-488 bus. You connect the P.I.E. to the PET
and the printer to the P.I.E. It's as easy as
PIE! The P.I.E. P.l.E. has selectable addressing and provides
extension of the IEEE-488 bus to be compatible
with all the other peripherals peripherols you have or
may acquire.
Because the P.I.E. transfers information 8 bits
at a time, time. it's faster than serial interfaces.
And because many printers only provide serial
interfaces optionally, optionally. you can save money using
the P.I.E. Serial interfaces require +12v+ and
-12v from a power supply while the P.I.E. P.l.E. uses
only +5v+ which can be supplied by most printers
themselves. No tangle of wires to contend with
and you save again. If your printer can't can·t supply
power, power. the P.I.E. P.l.E. can also a be connected to a
power supply using the power cable provided on
the P.I.E.
The P.I.E. PH. uses the IEEE-488 bus of your PET
automatically type invoices and end-of-themonth
statements. statements, print all of your mailing labels
or even the envelopes. envelopes, make advertisements or
write letters. letters, make hard copies of those important
programs for permanent back-up. back-up, print your
favarite favorite recipe for a friend. friend, print personal
telephone listings or Christmas card lists--
but you haven·t haven't found an easy way to connect
it to your PET. Well. Well, your search is over! You've
found THE way to connect your printer to your
PET. Treat your PET to a PIE!
and the 488 Basic commands such as PRINT#.
PRINT#,
end-of-the-
CMD. CMD, etc. You don·t don't need to load software
routines. routines, which also slows the printing down.
down,
because the 488 commands are always available
in Basic.
Because the PET in lower case mode outputs
the wrong ASCII codes, codes. the P.I.E. provides
for the use of an optional, optional. switch h selectable, selectable.
Code Converter ROM to output the correct
ASCII codes to match all the ASCII II characters
displayed on the PET screen.
The P.I.E. P.l.E. provides 8 latched TTL data bits and
2 TTL handshaking lines (both positive and negative
handshaking supported) so any parallel-
parallelinput
device can be driven. This could include
devices other than printers, printers. such as plotters or
even AC relay control devices.
Documentation includes instructions for
using OPEN, OPEN. PRINT*, PRINT#. CMD and CLOSE commands.
how to set the device* device# of the P.I.E.
and the set-up -up and test mands,
procedures.
The P.I.E. P.l.E. is fully assembled and ready to use. Cables are optionally available for most printers (with both
connectors or connector for P.I.E.only). P.l.E.only). For FULL-CABLE please specify printer model, model. type of connector and
pin/signal
designation.
