Del started his life’s work 60 years ago when his father bought him a Hereford heifer for a 4-H project. Del & Ruth have been in this partnership for over 50 years. They established a sizeable polled Hereford cow herd and have merchandised many cattle at private treaty over the years. Herd bulls have always been selected from the front end of the production or consignment sale offerings they purchased from. The genetics & EPDs of the herd today attest to the quality offered. Present day herd sires include some of the proven lines today; Boulder, World Class, Boomer, Kodiak, Wrangler, Matrix and others. A young South Dakota couple, Reese & Elly Jo Wagner, are expanding their registered Hereford program by selecting all the ‘P’ & ‘R’ cows. These would be all the bred females born in 2004 & 2005. Reese comes from a strong Hereford background family (Rick & Judy Wagner) who have always maintained a commercial Hereford operation. Reese has shown Hereford steers & heifers successfully in 4-H and at Junior Hereford Association field days events. From those registered Hereford heifers came a productive cow herd and the selling of a few bulls at area consignment sales along with his top heifer calves. Another set of the Woodcrest Farms bred females have made the big move to southeast Nebraska. Duane & Karen Windhorst of Windhorst Polled Herefords near (continued on page 6)
