Oh, they don’t all look the same that’s for sure, but it has to do with the way they wear ‘em. You’ll very rarely see a real cowboy chasing their hat. I don’t care if there’s a forty mile an hour Chinook wind blowin’, his ol’ sky piece will be right where she belongs. The secret here is to pull ‘er down over the knot. Every real cowboy has at least one or two knots on their head, which is why the hats get to lookin’ a little rough after while. I’ve got several spots that have taken stitches through the years, and several more that should have. I feel very fortunate that there isn’t any real evidence of drain bramage. The show was over, and I was walking across the grounds when I got freight trained from the back by a bronc that happened to escape out of an open gate. Who else but me could get run over by a buckin’ horse in a parkin’ lot? He started walkin’ on the back of my boots and then kept on a goin’ up my back where he did a little dance on the back of my head before headin’ for the Missouri breaks. That one still sticks out good enough to keep a hat where she belongs. There are several other ways to tell a real cowboy, too. One is by their tan line. It starts about an inch above their eyebrows and ends around three inches south of their chin. Other than a pair of tanned scarred up old hands, the rest of ‘em looks sort of like the belly on a fish. I saw one ol’ boy get talked into gettin’ into a pair of those Bermuda shorts. Now that was a sight to behold. Those skinny little white bow legs were somethin’. I measured my arms too…..same length. The only thing I can figure is that it must be a universal problem among real cowboys…. sort of like a genetic defect. Now, I’ve known some guys I thought were bored a little oversize, but I never even thought about off center. I’ll be doggoned. I ain’t tellin’ who this ol’ boy is, but his brand is TP Bar.
