At the conclusion of the horned show, Mrnak West, Gardnerville, Nev., secured the premier exhibitor and get of sire awards. Largent & Sons, Kaycee, Wyo., won the best six head title and Colyer Herefords, Bruneau, Idaho, captured the premier breeder banner. Weimer Cattle Co., Susanville, Calif., had a successful show, earning premier breeder and exhibitor awards along with the best six head honors in the polled show. In the junior show on Nov. 29, it was Brett Gagnon, Adin, Calif., who exhibited the grand champion female, H Paula 625 ET, by BR Moler ET. Taylor Schrick, Sayre, Okla., garnered the reserve champion female award with C 146 Ms Dom 7172 ET by DM BR L1 Domino 146. Jamie Mickelson, Santa Rosa, Calif., dominated the junior bull show, leading grand and reserve bulls. SMH Golden Curve Bender 84 by JM Golden Advance 62 was champion and SMH Game Day Advance 89 by C Game Day 3087 was reserve. Emily Holt and Kelsey Stimpson packed into the shuttle bus from the Reno Show to the hotel. Blake, Chrissy and B.W. Gordon Stephenson Recipient of Canadian Western Agribition Jim Lewthwaite Award Canadian Western Agribition (CWA) has named Gordon Stephenson of Calgary, AB (formally of Qu’Appelle, SK), as the recipient of the prestigious Jim Lewthwaite Award for 2007. The award, named in honour of one of the founders of Canadian Western Agribition, pays tribute to individuals, organizations or companies who promote Canadian Western Agribition internationally. Stephenson has been inextricably bound to Agribition for over three decades. Stephenson was Agribition’s General Manager for a five year period from 1977-1982; acted as a sponsor representative and served in a volunteer capacity as CWA President in Gordon Stephenson 1991 and 1992. During his official tenures, and more recently in his current role as General Manager of the Canadian Hereford Association, Stephenson has expanded Agribition’s marketing position globally by actively promoting the show as the premier opportunity to assess and access Canadian beef genetics. In 2007 alone, Stephenson will host international visitors from Brazil, Argentina, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia and Sweden. Fittingly, Stephenson’s award was presented at the annual CWA International Reception held at the Casino Regina Show Lounge. Montie Soules Receives Canadian Hereford Ambassador Award The Canadian Hereford Association’s Ambassador Award recognizes persons, family operations, or businesses that are non-residents of Canada, and/or non-members, which have made a major contribution to the promotion of Canadian Hereford Genetics. We are proud to award Montie Soules of the Star Lake Cattle Ranch with this honour for 2007. “Montie Soules has become the only American cattle breeder who’s treated like a Canadian,” in the words of cattle marketer Ted Serhienko, owner of T Bar C Cattle Company and publisher of Herefords Today. “Montie is recognized here as a competitor, a judge, a bidder and buyer, and a friend. He’s one of few American breeders who attend the big Hereford shows in Toronto and at Agribition on a regular basis.” The breeder and/or exhibitor of an estimated nearly 100 North American Grand Champion Horned Female – GH Cooperobin 254R, born 1/1/05, w/calf GH Adams Ice Breaker 115T, born 1/19/2007 and sired by GH Rambo 279R. Not only was this animal selected champion by a panel of 3 judges but also by the woman whose ticket was drawn yielding a sizable cash reward for the breeder. Neil Wilson Inducted Into Canadian Hereford Association Memorial Scroll Presenting the award to the Wilson family were Canadian Hereford Association General Manager Gordon Stephenson (left)and Garth Charlton.
