Das Werk entkräftet das Vorurteil, Kants Philosophie
sei für eine Reflexion der kulturellen Welt
unzureichend. Klingner entwickelt die Option einer
Kulturphilosophie als Theorie technischer Vernunft
mit Bezug auf den kantischen Kulturbegriff und
auf seinen Philosophiebegriff. Damit erweist sich
zugleich, dass eine kantische Kulturphilosophie
rekonstruierbar und in ihrem Gehalt auch heute
noch diskussionswürdig ist.
This work attempts to overcome the prejudice that
Kant‘s philosophy is inadequate for a reflection of
the cultural world. The author explores the possibility
of a cultural philosophy based upon a Kantian
notion of culture, and contends that Kant‘s understanding
of philosophy can be viewed as a theory of
technical reason. The line of argument reveals that
it is possible to reconstruct at least the outlines of a
Kantian philosophy of culture.

An Essay on the Semantics, Pragmatics,
and Metaphysics of Belief

Jonathan Berg argues for the Theory of Direct Belief,
which treats having a belief about an individual
as an unmediated relation between the believer and
the individual the belief is about. After a critical
review of alternative positions, Berg uses Grice‘s
theory of conversational implicature to provide a
detailed pragmatic account of substitution failure in
belief ascriptions and goes on to defend this view
against objections, including those based on an unwarranted
„Inner Speech“ Picture of Thought. The
work serves as a case study in pragmatic explanation,
dealing also with methodological issues about
context-sensitivity in language and the relation
between semantics and pragmatics.
