Jewish Reality in
Germany and Its
Reflection in Film
当 代 德 国 犹 太 人 生 活 现 状
及 其 在 电 影 中 的 反 映
The notion of “self” and “other” and its representation
in artwork and literature is an important
theme in current cultural sciences as well as in our
everyday life in contemporary Western societies.
Moreover, the concept of “self” and “other” and
its imaginary dichotomy is gaining more and more
political impact in a world of resurfacing ideologyridden
conflicts. The essays deal with Jewish reality
in contemporary Germany and its reflection in
movies from the special point of view of cultural
sciences, political sciences, and religious studies.
This anthology presents challengingly new insights
into topics rarely covered, such as youth culture or
humor, and finally discusses the images of Jewish
life as realities still to be constructed.
The Story of Private Entrepreneurs in
20 世 纪 20 年 代 和 30 年 代 巴 勒 斯 坦 地 区 柑 橘 种 植
园 私 营 企 业 主 的 故 事
Irit Amit-Cohen explores the riddle behind
disappearing citrus orchards and plantations from
Israel’s coastal scenery. The book reveals the
biographies of entrepreneurs who came to Palestine
in the 1920s and 1930s. Exposing the uniqueness
of the plantation companies, describing the figures
involved in them and analyzing their contribution
to forming Palestine’s settlement landscape in the
British Mandate period, this book relates the intimate
narrative of settlements which were built as
temporary structures, but still leave lasting imprints
on the landscape.
At the Intersection of Memory and Space
记 忆 与 空 间 的 交 集
The concept of Heimat with its seemingly pre- or
anti-modern connotations of rootedness in a place
of origin is central to a critical understanding of
German history and culture. This anthology is the
first to examine cultural manifestations of Heimat
by giving special consideration to issues of memory
and space. The contributions to this volume challenge
static notions of place often associated
with Heimat. Instead, they explore the social and
cultural production of places of belonging as they
emerge in literary and visual narratives ranging
from 1800 to 2000 and beyond.
