The English it-Cleft
英 语 中 It 分 裂 句 研 究
A Constructional Account and
a Diachronic Investigation
结 构 性 描 述 与 历 时 研 究
The English it-cleft is noted for its non-standard
structure and for its unusual pragmatic and
discourse-functional properties. This book presents
a constructional account of the English it-cleft
which is based on evidence from three main areas:
(a) the concept of specificational meaning, (b) the
existence of predicational (and proverbial) it-clefts,
and (c) the early, historical it-cleft data. Featuring
a sizeable diachronic component, the book contributes
to the limited (and largely unchallenged)
literature on the history of the English it-cleft.
Areal Features of
the Anglophone
World
英 语 世 界 中 的 地 区 特 点
The present volume seeks to unite the research
of a range of scholars working on features of
non-standard, vernacular English which show an
areal distribution, i.e. which cluster geographically
across the world. The volume is concerned
with dialect input, innovations among varieties of
English and the areal diffusion of features among
varieties. These and similar issues form the central
focus of the volume.
What Corpus Data Do and Do Not
Reveal About The Mind
关 于 意 识 , 语 料 库 透 露 了 多 少
This book explores the usage-based claim that
high usage frequency leads to the entrenchment
of complex words in the minds of language users.
To probe the correlation between corpus-extracted
usage data and mental entrenchment, the author
operationalises entrenchment in Gestalt psychological
terms and conducts a series of behavioural and
neuroimaging experiments.
