The Right to
Privacy in the
Light of Media
Perspectives from Three Continents
来 自 三 大 洲 的 观 点
The rapid change of the culture of communication
constantly poses new threats for the right to
privacy. These do not only emanate from States,
but also from private actors. The global network
of digital information has turned the protection of
privacy since a long time into an international challenge.
In this arena, national legal systems and their
underlying common values collide. This collection
convenes contributions from European, Australian
and US experts. They take on the challenge of providing
an intercontinental analysis of the issue and
answer the question how the right to privacy could
be defended in future.
The Sonority
Controversy
响 度 争 议
In linguistics, the notion of sonority is correlated
with the relative loudness of speech sounds. Sonority
is often claimed to be a governing force in the
organization of sounds into syllables. However,
there is widespread disagreement about how sonority
should be expressed in our theoretical models
of speech production and perception. This is the
first book focusing entirely on sonority. The list of
contributors includes many well-known specialists
in the fields of phonology and phonetics. All twelve
chapters in the volume present cutting-edge
research on the function of sonority in linguistic
systems. The controversial nature of the topic is
reflected in the diverging opinions about the role of
sonority in analyzing the world’s languages.
Steve Parker is Assistant Professor at the Graduate
Institute of Applied Linguistics in Dallas, Texas.
Linguistic
Supertypes
语 言 超 类 型
A Cognitive-Semiotic Theory of Human
Communication
认 知 符 号 学 交 际 理 论
By integrating ideas of Peirce, Bühler, Bakhtin,
Piaget and Jakobson, in this book the author defines
three linguistic supertypes each operating with either
the situation in reality, the speaker‘s experience
of it or his condensed information to the hearer.
The theory is built step by step on the basis of a
detailed examination of individual languages and
their relationship to perception and cognition, their
representation of situations and their use in oral and
written discourse. The theory offers a completely
new understanding of language and its role in
perception, cognition and communication.
