As the POI team seeks justice for Carter’s murder, Finch realizes one
of his team members may go one step too far in order to end the war
with HR. Also, The Machine gives out the Number for NYPD Officer
Patrick Simmons, one of the crime organization’s key players.
Reese lies in the hospital, unconscious.
Finch sits at his side for a while,
and finally gets up and goes.
Paul Carter and his son Taylor sit
at Carter’s grave. Finch and Sam stand
nearby, watching, while Fusco and the
other NYPD officers attend the funeral.
Across New York, newspaper headlines
announce the search for Simmons,
Carter’s killer. Finch walks down the
street and finally goes to a payphone. It
rings and he answers, and then goes to
the headquarters and deciphers the new
Number. It belongs to... Simmons.
Sam goes through New York interrogating
anyone who might know where Simmons is.
Simmons buys a fake ID so he can get out of the country. As the three men who sell him the
ID drive away, Reese rams their car with a truck. He holds up Simmons’ photo and demands
answers, and the men tell him what he wants to know.
2010 — Finch meets with a therapist and discusses her technique. The therapist asks what he
wants to talk about, and Finch asks if grief has a purpose. She suggests that they talk about
his circumstances and asks if he lost someone, and Finch explains that he lost his closest friend
in an accident. The therapist asks if he has someone to comfort him, and Finch says that he
was in a relationship but it’s over now. He explains that he’s reevaluating choices that he made.
The therapist tells him that grief causes a false sense of lucidity, but Finch says that he wants
