wonders what he means and Reese says that he’s been a part of the program for two years. His
CO ordered him to find out who was selling the name of their operatives to the Chinese. Reese
tells the psychologist that he should have just done his job and then shoots him dead.
2013 — The Federal marshals run out to check out the car and call for air support. They call their
lead marshal, Pollack, but he says that he’s not sending air support for a car fire. As manager
complains, Reese takes out the marshal with him.
At the safehouse, Alonzo tells Pollack that he should call for backup. Pollack figures that he
doesn’t need it, but his men call to tell him that someone has sealed the hotel doors from the
inside. The lights go out in the hotel and Pollack has his ready team secure the door and then
secure the hallways. He tells Alonzo to move out, but Alonzo tells him that his men can’t stop
the man who is coming after him.
In the hotel, Reese sets explosive charges and winces as blood leaks through his shirt. Meanwhile,
the Ready team find a pile of emergency flares outside a door. They move past it, and Reese
bursts out and shoots the flares. They go off, blinding the ready men because of the night-vision
goggles. Reese takes them out and sets off the explosive charge, eliminating the others.
Pollack leads Alonzo out but Reese gets the drop on the team leader. He leads him back
inside and then knocks him out, and then tells Alonzo to give him Simmons’ exit. Alonzo refuses,
saying that he built HR on loyalty and Simmons came after Carter because of loyalty. He refuses
to betray his lieutenant, and Reese figures that Alonzo’s word is his bond. Reese says that he
does the same and says that he’s going to kill him whether he talks or not. He take off his watch
and puts it on the table, and says that in three minutes Alonzo is dead. Reese assures him that
he’s spent years learning how to painlessly kill someone... and he’ll forget it all if Alonzo doesn’t
talk.
The Marshals cut through the lock just as Sam arrives and takes them out. As they go in,
Root asks for a gun again. Sam refuses but Finch points out that she could have killed them,
and Sam reluctantly hands two over. More Marshals pull up and Root opens fire, crippling all of
them. She then tells Fusco and Sam to head up while she watches the front.
Alonzo writes down the information on Simmons and Reese takes it. He prepares to shoot
Alonzo, but Finch comes in and reminds him that Carter sacrificed everything to bring down
Alonzo on legal twins. Finch says that he can kill Alonzo if he wants, but he shouldn’t fool
himself into believing it’s what Carter would have wanted. Reese wonders why they didn’t kill
Alonzo in the first place, and then collapses. Finch says that their purpose is to save lives and
asks him to let them help him. Reese tries to shoot Alonzo anyway but the gun doesn’t fire. Fusco
tells them to get Reese out while he makes sure the Marshals take Alonzo back into custody.
As they drive away, Sam says that they should be going after Simmons. Finch tells her that
they have to make choices and he doesn’t intend to lose another friend. Root speaks up and says
that The Machine never said that Reese was the only one who wanted to kill Simmons.
As the Marshals take Alonzo out, Fusco picks up the directions that the crime lord wrote
down.
2005 — Fusco meets with a departmental psychiatrist after a shooting. The detective says that
he’s been sleeping fine, but the psychiatrist notes that killing someone is hard even when the
shooting is justified. Fusco reluctantly describes what happened and insists that it’s part of his
job. The psychiatrist warns that some officers kill themselves because of posttraumatic symptoms
and tells Fusco to get real with him. Fusco confirms that everything he says is confidential,
and tells the psychiatrist that he shot the drug dealer, Jules, because Jules shot an off-duty
rookie with a pregnant wife a year ago. Jules got off thanks to his lawyer, so Fusco tracked
him down to a bodega and shot him dead. Fusco says that he’s been sleeping fine, thanks the
psychiatrist for letting him unburden himself, and walks out.
2013 — Simmons goes to a small private airfield, smiling in triumphant. Fusco comes out behind
him and says that he sent the pilot on his way. Simmons asks if he’s going to shoot an unarmed
man, and Fusco says that he’s been waiting a long time to beat him bloody. They fight and
Fusco grabs Simmons’ shoulder wound, but Simmons manages to knock him free. They continue
beating on each other and Fusco finally manages to break his arm. As he lies on the tarmac,
Simmons tells Fusco to get it over with. Fusco looks down on him and says that he could have
been like Simmons, but he got lucky. He had a partner who reminded him that he could be good
again... and he’s not going to throw away everything Carter gave him on garbage like Simmons.
