Person of Interest Episode Guide
to do something radical as a tribute to his friend’s memory. She cautions against it and talks
about how she has been working with the survivors of the ferry bombing earlier that year. The
therapist tells him that his friend’s death wasn’t his fault, and that he doesn’t control who lives
or dies. She assures Finch that the guilt he feels will eventually pass, but he asks if it passes
when everything that happens is the survivor’s fault.
2013 — Finch brings a meal to Root and she points out that he looks tired. He refuses to talk and
turns to go, and Root repeats her offer to help. Finch tells her that it’s too late but Root realizes
that Reese is in trouble. However, she tells Finch that there are bigger problems at hand because
whatever The Machine was preparing her for is coming. Finch’s phone rings and he steps outside
to take the call.
Fusco summon Finch to the car wreck where Reese ran the car off the road. Witnesses have
identified Reese but Finch notes that Sam is on the loose as well. Fusco assures Finch that
everyone wants Simmons, but warns that the scorched earth campaign will make the search
harder. The detective confirms that the three men worked for a forger named Seamus Yorke, and
Finch says that they need to find Yorke.
Sam captures a criminal and strings him up in a warehouse. She ignores her calls from Finch
and tells her prisoner that she doesn’t believe him. Finch and Fusco come in and Sam explains
that Reese broke his legs and she found the man later. She wonders why they should bother
stopping Reese, and Finch points out that their friend’s injuries are life-threatening. Sam agrees
to help but warns that the only way to find Reese is to find Simmons first. The criminal speaks
up and says that Alonzo knows how Simmons will escape the city. Fusco confirms that the Feds
won’t give him Alonzo’s location, but Finch figures they can track Alonzo through his lawyer,
Jimmy Ransone. The trio takes off, leaving the criminal hanging.
Fusco and Sam go to Ransone’s office and find him dead, tortured with cigarette burns and
then shot. Sam figures that it’s amateur work, not Reese’s style. Fusco finds the security tapes
and discovers that Reese is on the tapes. He’s in bad shape, but he left five minutes before the
Russian mobsters came in and killed Ransone. Alonzo turned evidence against the Russians so
they’re after him. Sam says that one other person can tell them where Alonzo is and tells Finch
that they need Root.
2005 — Sam is working as a doctor and is under review. Her QMI manager notes that she took
heroic efforts to save a man named Loftin, but then ate a candy bar as she told his family that he
was dead. The manager asks if Shaw cares if her patients live and die, and she says that it does.
He wonders if it bothers her, and Shaw says that the hospital is filled with patients who live or
die. The manager says that they pretend, but he figures that she isn’t pretending. He figures that
she should never have been accepted into the program, and Shaw says that she can’t understand
why he would want someone with emotions over her. The manager says that she’s very gifted but
she’ll never be a doctor because she’s a fixer, not a healer.
2013 — Back at headquarters, Sam insists that they go to Root but Finch warns that there will
be consequences and they have to prepare for what may happen. She says that she’s in and asks
Finch if he is. Finch goes to Root’s cage and gestures her out. Upstairs, a cellphone rings and
Root takes the call. She takes it and smiles.
That night, Sam drives Root, Finch, and Fusco to Quinn’s location. Following Root’s directions,
they turn off their headlights and Root tells Sam to turn when she feel them hit a bump.
Sam pulls up to a building and Root tells Finch to grab a first aid kit. When Fusco wonders why
they should listen to Root, she describes his personal life and how his father named him after a
lion at the zoo. She tells Fusco that she’s there to help, but he’s understandably skeptical. Root
asks Sam for a gun, and when Sam refuses, tells her to turn and shoot. A Federal marshal comes
out and Sam kneecaps him, and they drag him inside.
Once inside, Root directs their attention to the hotel across the street. Alonzo peers out of a
window and Root describes the security precautions. As Fusco wonders if Reese is there, a car
outside blows up.
2007 — A Specops psychologist interrogates Reese to see if his suitable. The psychologist warns
that Reese is joining men who live on the ragged edge who have to do terrible things, and asks
if Reese can do it. Reese says that he can, and assures him that he will follow his orders even
if he has to kill a terrorist in front of his son. When the psychologist notes that Reese lost his
father, he asks if he might have second thoughts in making a terrorist’s child an orphan. Reese
says that he can and the psychologist says that he has to do his job and make sure that Reese
