L<strong>in</strong>dy Sando and Vaughan Taylor began their careers <strong>in</strong> <strong>architectural</strong> <strong>glass</strong> after tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />
with master sta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>glass</strong> artisan Leonard Mathews. In 1976 they established the Art Glass<br />
studio together. They cont<strong>in</strong>ue to work together fulltime and have completed hundreds of<br />
commissions for homes, churches and public build<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />
They have exhibited <strong>in</strong> Australia and Japan. In 1986 they were recipients of a shared grant<br />
to mount an exhibition of <strong>architectural</strong> sta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>glass</strong> at the Jam Factory <strong>in</strong> Adelaide. They<br />
cont<strong>in</strong>ue to forge new ground and endeavour to take the <strong>glass</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry to a higher level of<br />
expression. They are currently work<strong>in</strong>g from their studio <strong>in</strong> the Adelaide hills.<br />
Sando has studied many art related courses <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g commercial art, design, life draw<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
pr<strong>in</strong>tmak<strong>in</strong>g and sculpture. She has also participated <strong>in</strong> numerous <strong>glass</strong> workshops with<br />
<strong>in</strong>ternational designers <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Ludwig Schaffrath, Johannes Schreiter, Lutz Haufschild<br />
and Amber Hiscott. She designs all of the <strong>glass</strong>works that the studio produces and is<br />
responsible for surface treatments <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g and etch<strong>in</strong>g. Sando is keen<br />
to develop new <strong>techniques</strong> and solutions <strong>in</strong> her work. She is currently experiment<strong>in</strong>g with<br />
<strong>contemporary</strong> pa<strong>in</strong>ted <strong>techniques</strong> on commercial <strong>glass</strong>. She was a found<strong>in</strong>g member of<br />
Aus<strong>glass</strong> and was a member of CraftSouth for many years.<br />
Taylor fabricates all of the w<strong>in</strong>dows and <strong>glass</strong>works made by the Art Glass Studio.<br />
He comes from a practical background and has a very hands on approach. He is<br />
constantly develop<strong>in</strong>g new ideas and build<strong>in</strong>g the equipment to produce them. He<br />
has been experiment<strong>in</strong>g with <strong>glass</strong> lam<strong>in</strong>ation <strong>techniques</strong> for many years and was very<br />
<strong>in</strong>terested to see what was happen<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> this area overseas. The utilization of commercial<br />
glaz<strong>in</strong>g technology to achieve <strong>glass</strong> designs is another area he is develop<strong>in</strong>g. Taylor is a<br />
member of the Glass and Glaz<strong>in</strong>g Guild of S.A.<br />
Apart from their <strong>glass</strong> work Sando and Taylor are kept busy on their 20 acre property. They<br />
have a huge native garden which <strong>in</strong>cludes a large hedge maze.
