Derix Studio, Taunusste<strong>in</strong><br />

The fellows were privileged to spend a week as guests of the Derix Studio. Accommodation<br />

was on site <strong>in</strong> an apartment which is available for visit<strong>in</strong>g artists. Visitors are allowed to observe<br />

all aspects of the studio. Derix Studio is one of the largest <strong>architectural</strong> <strong>glass</strong> studios <strong>in</strong> the world.<br />

They fabricate work designed by other artists. They do not design work themselves but<br />

employ artisans who are highly skilled <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>terpret<strong>in</strong>g designs <strong>in</strong>to <strong>glass</strong>. They are absolute<br />

perfectionists and are able to achieve the best possible results. They manufacture huge<br />

commissions world wide for a diverse range of clients and <strong>in</strong> very diverse styles. It is an<br />

arrangement that works well.<br />

The artists could not possibly fabricate the work themselves but they have the confidence when<br />

design<strong>in</strong>g that the work will be realized <strong>in</strong> the most professional way. Derix employ approximately<br />

65 artisans. They offer a three year apprenticeship and most of their employees are long term.<br />

They are all very dedicated and take great pride <strong>in</strong> their work. At any time they can be work<strong>in</strong>g
