Guy Kemper from USA who has designed major <strong>in</strong>stallations for airports as well as the<br />

Catholic Chapel at “ground zero” New York. His designs are very free-flow<strong>in</strong>g and give the<br />

impression of large watery brush strokes. This is achieved by comb<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g lam<strong>in</strong>ated hand<br />

blown “ antique” <strong>glass</strong>, which is acid etched <strong>in</strong> up to 4 layers, with hand pa<strong>in</strong>ted and airbrushed<br />

vitreous enamels onto security <strong>glass</strong>.<br />

Johannes Schreiter who is one of the best known and highly regarded <strong>contemporary</strong><br />

sta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>glass</strong> artists from Germany. At the age of 77 he is still design<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> his m<strong>in</strong>imalist style<br />

with very subdued colour palette. It was obvious by the attention that he received that he<br />

is still considered to be the master. Although his work appears to be simple there is great<br />

attention to detail. The <strong>glass</strong>, which is hand blown opaque, is made especially for him by<br />

Lamberts <strong>glass</strong>works. The airbrushed shad<strong>in</strong>g is done to his exact<strong>in</strong>g standards before be<strong>in</strong>g<br />

fired. He uses the lead l<strong>in</strong>es to express the design <strong>in</strong> the same way that a pen would draw on paper.<br />

The result is very powerful as well as contemplative.<br />

Karl-Mart<strong>in</strong> Hartmann is another German artist who cont<strong>in</strong>ues to use the leaded <strong>glass</strong><br />

technique but <strong>in</strong> a very different way. His designs are very <strong>in</strong>tricate with thousands of t<strong>in</strong>y<br />

pieces fitted together <strong>in</strong>to a brightly coloured “floral“ design. His work is <strong>in</strong>credibly labour
