Key Issues<br />
Use of traditional skills with new <strong>techniques</strong> to produce <strong>contemporary</strong> <strong>glass</strong> <strong>in</strong>stallations.<br />
Incorporat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>contemporary</strong> <strong>glass</strong> <strong>in</strong>to historic architecture. Hav<strong>in</strong>g uncompromis<strong>in</strong>g vision<br />
i.e. f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g solutions to extend boundaries.<br />
Another w<strong>in</strong>dow of <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> Barcelona was designed by architect and <strong>glass</strong> artist Antonio<br />
Sa<strong>in</strong>z-Keshava. It is a 22 x 25 metre area of <strong>glass</strong> which forms part of the facade of the<br />
Casa Madrid office build<strong>in</strong>g. The work is called The Awaken<strong>in</strong>g Planet and <strong>in</strong>corporates<br />
sandblast<strong>in</strong>g with lam<strong>in</strong>ated coloured <strong>glass</strong>. With<strong>in</strong> the build<strong>in</strong>g atrium and directly <strong>in</strong> front<br />
of this w<strong>in</strong>dow is a three dimensional, suspended sculpture, The Permanent Eclipse. It is<br />
computer programmed to follow the movement of the sun and cast a shadow on the<br />
reception desk, shield<strong>in</strong>g it from the <strong>in</strong>tense light of the w<strong>in</strong>dow. It is thus a functional as<br />
well as aesthetic public art work.
