Chow Chee Yan
Senior Vice President, Internal Audit
Chee Yan, aged 56, was appointed Head
of Internal Audit in June 2002. Prior to
joining the Maxis Communications Berhad
Group of Companies in June 2002, he was
Director of Risk Management of MEASAT
Broadcast Network Systems Sdn Bhd and
was responsible for internal audit and
change management activities.
Chee Yan also spent 13 years with the
Schlumberger Group and was its
International Financial Controller in
Singapore, Indonesia and the United
States. Prior to this, he was with Ernst &
Whinney in Singapore from 1981 to 1982
and Turquands Barton Mayhew in
Manchester, UK from 1977 to 1981. Chee
Yan is a Chartered Accountant (England &
Wales) and holds a Masters of Business
Administration from Cranfield Institute of
Science and Technology in the UK.
Azmi bin Ujang
Senior Vice President, Human
Resources
Azmi, aged 50, was appointed Head of
Human Resources of the Maxis
Communications Berhad Group of
Companies in February 2002. He has
been with the Group since 1992. Azmi is
responsible for the overall management of
human capital, internal communications
and the Maxis Academy, the in-house
centre for staff learning and leadership
development.
Azmi brings over 23 years of experience
to Maxis. Prior to joining MCB, he was a
Dealer Representative at Seagrott &
Campbell, a stock broking firm, for a year.
He also spent seven years at Standard
Chartered Bank Berhad as a Covenanted
Officer/National Officer in banking
operations and human resources. Azmi
holds a Bachelor of Science degree in
Finance and a Masters of Business
Administration from Indiana State
University in the USA.
Stephen John Mead
Senior Vice President, General
Counsel
Stephen, aged 44, joined Maxis
Communications Berhad Group of
Companies in June 2009. He has overall
responsibility for all legal matters affecting
Maxis, including litigation, legal
compliance, legal support on corporate
activities, contracting and
telecommunications law issues.
Stephen has over 20 years of experience,
and prior to joining Maxis he was with
Mallesons Stephen Jaques (“MSJ”), a
leading legal firm in Australia, where he
was a mergers and acquisitions partner. He
has extensive general commercial legal
experience, having acted for clients in a
wide variety of legal issues. While at MSJ,
he was seconded to Telstra Corporation
Ltd, Australia’s largest telecommunications
company, where he held several positions
including that of Deputy General Counsel
and Competition Counsel. He holds a LLB
(Honours) from the Queensland University
of Technology in Australia.
