F. Family Engagement as per OAC 340:110-1-8.9<br />
Rationale: Families are <strong>the</strong> child’s first teachers and are <strong>the</strong> link between <strong>the</strong><br />
educational setting and home. A strong connection between child care staff and<br />
families is critical <strong>for</strong> building a positive environment <strong>for</strong> young children, allowing<br />
children to feel more secure, confident and self-assured. In addition, high quality <strong>of</strong><br />
family involvement reduces <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> complaints made. Everyone, but especially<br />
children, benefits when providers and families work toge<strong>the</strong>r.<br />
G. Program Evaluation as per OAC 340:110-1-8.10<br />
Rationale: Taking <strong>the</strong> time to evaluate your program is universally recognized as one <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> key indicators <strong>of</strong> quality in child care. Evaluating your program helps you identify<br />
<strong>the</strong> strengths and weaknesses in your facility, grow as a pr<strong>of</strong>essional, provide a quality<br />
environment <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> children in your care, and increase family awareness regarding <strong>the</strong><br />
importance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir child’s care.<br />
H. Accreditation as per OAC 340:110-1-8.3<br />
Rationale: Accreditation and Head Start standards reflect a process <strong>of</strong> extensive selfstudy<br />
and external review <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> program compared to benchmark standards <strong>of</strong> quality<br />
set by <strong>the</strong> accrediting agency or <strong>the</strong> federal government. It is not only a process <strong>of</strong><br />
quality but a commitment to continuous improvement. Most accreditation or Head Start<br />
standards exceed <strong>Reaching</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Stars</strong> criteria.<br />
