Master teacher Qualifications <strong>for</strong> School-age programs<br />
A One Star and One Star Plus facility meets minimum requirements <strong>for</strong> master teachers with<br />
a ratio <strong>of</strong> 1 master teacher <strong>for</strong> every 60 children. For Two and Three Star centers licensed<br />
as a school-age program or programs where <strong>the</strong> majority <strong>of</strong> children are school age, a<br />
center must have 1 master teacher <strong>for</strong> every 40 children.<br />
A person is not counted as a master teacher, director or qualified caregiver in more than one<br />
facility unless <strong>the</strong> facilities are programs that do not operate concurrently at any given time.<br />
A master teacher must be employed at <strong>the</strong> facility, be on-site on a full-time basis, work directly with<br />
children, be trained in ELG and meet and maintain ONE <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> following:<br />
• One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Master teacher qualifications required <strong>for</strong> centers, as listed on page 29 <strong>of</strong> this<br />
document<br />
OR<br />
• 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university which includes at least 15college<br />
credit hours in elementary education, recreation or o<strong>the</strong>r coursework that supports working with<br />
children, families and <strong>the</strong> community.<br />
OR<br />
• 4-year degree from an accredited college or university which includes 6 college credit hours in<br />
elementary education, recreation or o<strong>the</strong>r coursework that supports working with children, families<br />
and <strong>the</strong> community.<br />
OR<br />
• 2 or 4 year degree from an accredited college or university in elementary education, recreation or<br />
o<strong>the</strong>r coursework that supports working with children, families and <strong>the</strong> community.<br />
OR<br />
• 120 clock hours <strong>of</strong> school-age related pr<strong>of</strong>essional development within <strong>the</strong> last five years AND<br />
one year <strong>of</strong> full- time experience in a licensed or legally exempt school-age childcare setting AND<br />
every two years receives a minimum score <strong>of</strong> 5.0 on <strong>the</strong> School-Age Environment Rating Scale in<br />
a classroom where <strong>the</strong> master teacher is <strong>the</strong> lead teacher.<br />
