CEO, Town & Country Homes - 2006 Jan - 2007 July<br />
The post encompassed operationally managing Irelands leading<br />
B&B organisation with over 1300 members and 30 staff. His external<br />
responsibilities included creating a new strategic vision to enable the home<br />
stay sector to survive and thrive while representing the company on key<br />
national and all island strategic committees. He is credited with rebranding<br />
the organisation B&B Ireland and developing the concept of themed B&B.<br />
Manager, Western Development Tourism Programme, 2001 - 2006<br />
A landmark multi-agency company focusing on innovation applied to<br />
sustainable tourism development in the seven counties of the west - among<br />
the notable legacies conceived and developed by Alan were Walking<br />
in the West and the internationally recognised Green Box (Irelands first<br />
ecotourism destination). As manager he consulted / partnered with seven<br />
different development agencies and hundreds of special interest, community<br />
development and private sector actors.<br />
Marketing & Development Manager, Shannon Erne Waterway, 1997 - 2001<br />
The flagship cross border multi-agency project of the 1990’s. It’s legacy still<br />
obvious in the economy for the western border region. His responsibilities<br />
included devising and delivering a global marketing/communications strategy<br />
for the islands inland waterways together with managing the IFI / UK-RoI<br />
Government Capital Development Programme for the corridor region. Given<br />
the cross border nature of the territory peace building was an important pillar<br />
of the role.<br />
Marketing Manager / Director, Armagh Regional Tourism Consortium,<br />
1993 - 1997<br />
A local government post responsible for building and branding the tourism<br />
offering of NI third city and district. The multi faceted role was largely<br />
focused on heritage while empowering the five major built heritage attraction<br />
of the area. As part of his Armagh City & District Council experience he<br />
was co-opted for two years as Director of Armagh Together 1994/’95 the<br />
largest ever cross community festival in NI. The festival received extensive<br />
worldwide recognition for its peace building legacy.<br />
