Chinese, Arabs, and Indians. 52 No sources for the detailed statistical expenditures and revenues of Kelantan and Trengganu are available in order to make it possible to determine the real economic situation and the distribution of wealth of those states. However, from the existing sources it can be concluded that even though they were not developing economically, this does not seem to have been detrimental to their political stability. The implication from this paper shows three different courses taken by Kedah, Kelantan and Trengganu which were all to lead to the same end. In Kedah, the economic factor determined her loss of sovereignty, whereas in Kelantan, political instability led to the same fate. Trengganu, on the other hand, suffered neither of these afflictions, but events beyond her control were to lead to the inevitable loss of independence suffered by her neighbors at the hands of a larger and stronger outside power. 52.
