This chapter describes various types of auxiliary equipment that<br />

may be used to secure a transponder.<br />

Anchor-weight<br />

A transponder requires an anchor weight of approximately 60 to<br />

70 kg to hold the transponder securely in position on the seabed.<br />

Use a length of rope from 3 to 15 metres long to attach the<br />

anchor, <strong>and</strong> then attach the “top” of the rope to the transponder.<br />

Caution<br />

Do not use a chain. A chain can cause corrosion.<br />

The length of the rope depends on the transponder use.<br />

If you use LBL with very long base line in deep water, use<br />

up to15 m.<br />

If you use SSBL on a flat seabed, a 3 m rope is sufficient.<br />

Floating rope<br />

A floating rope may be used when collecting the transponder by<br />

a ROV.<br />

Refer to example in the figure on page 99.<br />
