Transponder setup <strong>and</strong> operation<br />

Pre-deployment checks<br />

Before you deploy the transponder, you must:<br />

1 Check that the battery contains sufficient power for the<br />

proposed operation.<br />

2 Before deployment, perform a visual inspection of the<br />

transponder.<br />

3 Perform a functional check to ensure it will operate<br />

correctly once it has been positioned on the seabed.<br />

Ensure the transponder replies to the<br />

correctinterrogation frequency.<br />

The functional check can be performed as follows:<br />

Transponder in water -use the APOS function check. When<br />

checking, lower the transponder on a rope over the vessel’s side.<br />

help.<br />

Transponder on deck -use the Transponder Test <strong>and</strong><br />

Configuration Unit (TTC 400).<br />

Mounting<br />

A transponder may be secured to a subsea structure using<br />

mounting brackets, or fitted with an anchor weight <strong>and</strong> floating<br />

collar for location on the open seabed.<br />

Mounting an EEx transponder<br />

At deployment, ensure a safe mounting of the transponder with<br />

adequate mechanical protection.<br />

Deployment<br />

Caution<br />

During deployment prevent the transponder from<br />

slamming against other solid objects.<br />
