PROJECT METHODOLOGY
The methodology adopted for the preparation of the
draft strategy included:
• An initial briefing session with the Project
Steering Committee to discuss and confirm the
project objectives and methodology.
• Familiarisation tours of the municipality to
develop awareness and understanding of the
major attractions, issues such as transport access,
and to gauge general tourism ambience and
potential.
• A review of all previous studies and other
documents and strategies relevant to the project.
• Preparation of an issues paper and questionnaire
to assist Project Steering Committee members,
Chambers of Commerce and others in
considering the key issues and opportunities for
sustainable tourism development in
the municipality.
• Stakeholder consultations including with Council
staff, industry operators, land managers and
other government agencies to identify key issues
and opportunities, in respect of tourism product,
tourism issues and development opportunities.
• Community forums held in Williamstown
and Altona to gain feedback from the local
community about the direction of the Strategy
• A public consultation period of six weeks which
drew six written responses from the Hobsons Bay
community.
