Strychn<strong>in</strong>e C 21 H 22 N 2 O 2 RMM: 334.41<br />
• Is used as a pesticide for kill<strong>in</strong>g small mammals,<br />
birds and rodents.<br />
• Strychn<strong>in</strong>e causes muscular convulsions and<br />
eventually death through asphyxia or exhaustion.<br />
• The use <strong>of</strong> strychn<strong>in</strong>e as a medic<strong>in</strong>e was abandoned<br />
once safer alternatives became available.<br />
• The most common source is from the seeds <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Strychos nux vomica tree found <strong>in</strong> Asia.<br />
