<strong>The</strong> Emerging Markets Diagnostic Tool<br />

<strong>The</strong> Emerging Markets Diagnostic Tool (Figure 8.1.2) was developed by Trought <strong>and</strong><br />

Brew-Riverson (2010) to provide a means for SMEs to assess how to engage with the<br />

increasing challenges presented by emerging markets. <strong>The</strong> model invites SMEs to<br />

review both their current <strong>business</strong> environment <strong>and</strong> their <strong>business</strong> processes. Central<br />

to the ability to compete is an underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the key components of the <strong>business</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> the environment within which it operates. By conducting this overview the SME<br />

will be in a better position to underst<strong>and</strong> which are the most relevant of challenges<br />

<strong>and</strong> set clear objectives. <strong>The</strong> tool then presents several options for the SME to<br />

consider in order to achieve their objectives.<br />
