Certificate Program in Career Coaching<br />
<strong>LaGuardia</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>’s Career Development Institute offers a Certificate Program in Career Coaching for human<br />
resources professionals, psychologists, counselors, social workers, MBAs, recruiters and those with professional work<br />
experience who are interested in the field. Enhance your skills to advance in your current position or start a brand new<br />
chapter in your professional life.<br />
This is a 5-course program. Successful completion leads to a professional certificate in career coaching from <strong>LaGuardia</strong><br />
<strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>/<strong>CUNY</strong>. Courses are offered on a weekend schedule.<br />
Fundamentals of Counseling<br />
and Coaching Skills<br />
Review and practice basic skills and techniques<br />
necessary for effective career coaching in this<br />
introductory course. You will discuss differences and<br />
similarities between coaching and counseling; intake<br />
interview techniques; coaching groups vs. individuals,<br />
and career coaching models and sample assessment.<br />
You’ll also have the opportunity to practice what you’ve<br />
learned in class through role play and small group<br />
activities. (This course is a prerequisite to all other<br />
program courses. Co requisite: Using Assessment in<br />
Career Coaching.)<br />

Coaching<br />
Explore effective career interest, skills and preference<br />
inventories that are used by career coaches in private<br />
practice and organizational settings. You will complete<br />
and interpret several inventories and other assessment<br />
material, and learn how to apply these to specific client<br />
populations. Prerequisite or co requisite: Fundamentals<br />
of Counseling and Coaching Skills.<br />

Discover the importance of diversity in the workplace<br />
and how to apply the concept of inclusion in your career<br />
coaching. You’ll review ethics in a multicultural context;<br />

exercises, and best practices from guest speakers.<br />

Career Planning Seminar<br />
Do you want to make a change in your career, or are<br />
you just starting out and need help deciding which path<br />
to take? Work with a coach to examine your professional<br />
experiences and determine which direction is best for<br />
you. You will assess your skills, interests and values, and<br />
explore options to help you establish career and/or<br />
educational plans, including short and long term goals.<br />
You’ll also complete an interest inventory.<br />

Enrique Garcia Bejar has taken his education and<br />
many years of career counseling/coaching experience,<br />
and put them all into the new Career Development<br />
Institute at <strong>LaGuardia</strong>. The Institute offers two<br />
programs: a career coaching certificate program for<br />
professionals already working or interested in working<br />
in the field, and career planning seminars for anyone<br />
looking to change or begin a career.<br />
“I realized that there was a field unknown to many<br />
that provided a planned and organized way to choose<br />
a career or job,” says Mr. Garcia Bejar of his interest<br />
in career coaching. “It’s an opportunity to offer<br />
individuals a process to take control of their lives.”<br />
With an Ed.M. Degree in Psychological Counseling<br />
from Columbia University; certification in several<br />
Career and Psychological Assessments; and<br />
experience in organizations including <strong>LaGuardia</strong>’s<br />
Career Development Center and through his own<br />
company, Bejar Consulting Group LLC, which provides<br />
executive and career coaching to organization/<br />
corporate clients in the U.S. and abroad, the Career<br />
Development Institute is in good hands.<br />
