Get the English skills you need to succeed in college and receive help applying for financial aid. If you have been accepted to a CUNY college, you may qualify for the CUNY English Language Immersion Program (CLIP). Spend up to one year in this low-cost program to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English. Classes meet 25 hours per week, and you can choose day or evening sessions. Discover your Career Options The presenter will link your current or future major with a career, using a questionnaire called the Student Directed Survey. NEW CUNY Start Have you been accepted into LaGuardia Community College? Did you fail two or more CUNY placement exams? Get the academic support you need to pass the CUNY placement exams and succeed in college! CUNY Start is an intensive 18-week, daytime program that provides remedial instruction in academic reading, writing and math for college-bound GED and high school graduates. The program--which costs only $75, including books--allows you to save your financial aid for credit courses and offers advisement on college and career planning, including financial aid. How to apply to CUNY Start Attend an Information Session You’ll learn about the program and have an opportunity to apply and interview with a CUNY Start staff member. DARING TO DO MORE Mercy Ofori Hard Work Pays Off Mercy Ofori was stuck in a dead end job and didn’t see a way out. Until she decided to head back to school to get her GED diploma. It was hard work. She had to study for two semesters just to qualify for the GED course and then another year in the GED preparation class. Upon passing the GED exam, Mercy applied to CUNY Start, a college transition program that provides remedial instruction in reading, writing and math for college-bound GED and high school graduates. Having passed the CUNY placement tests and nabbing a nomination for this year’s Peter Jennings Scholarship Laurel Award, Mercy enrolled at LaGuardia as a Physical Therapy Assistant major. She hopes to work in her new field and continue her studies to become a Physical Therapist. “I can now say with pride that my future holds a promising and better life,” she says. “I also feel that I am now a good example for my children.” I can now say with pride that my future holds a promising and better life.
