Program<br />

Get certified as a Phlebotomist and EKG Technician and<br />

learn medical terminology to become a Medical Office<br />

Clinical Technician. The Medical Office Clinical<br />

Technician assists the physician with many clinical<br />

areas of medical practice, including taking vital signs,<br />

preparing patients for procedures, and performing<br />

phlebotomy (blood drawing) and electrocardiography<br />

(EKG). Upon successfully passing all three courses<br />

listed below, in any order, you will earn the Medical<br />

Office Clinical Technician Certificate from <strong>LaGuardia</strong>.<br />

(Courses may also be taken individually.)<br />

Phlebotomy<br />

Learn the anatomy and physiology of the venous<br />

system as well as phlebotomy practices. Develop your<br />

skills in the performance of a variety of blood collection<br />

techniques employing universal precautions. Perform<br />

blood collection procedures including: (a) vacuum<br />

collection; (b) syringes; (c) dermal punctures; (d)<br />

butterfly needles; and (e) micro hematocrit collections.<br />

Learn infection prevention and control; patient<br />

identification; quality assurance; and specimen<br />

handling, labeling, and transport. Successful completion<br />

leads to certification as a Phlebotomy Technician.<br />
