which local fruit growers learnt
modern fruit-growing methods.
So, the unparalleled reputation
of “jabłka grójeckie” in
those regions has been strengthened
for almost 500 years. For
most inhabitants of the Mazowieckie
Voivodeship and adjacent
voivodeships, Grójec is a
synonym of the apple-growing
area. Everywhere, we can meet
fruit-growing motives, for example:
in the crest of the Grójec
district, in the names of localities
(Sadków, Sadkowice). The
importance of fruit-growing to
only makes it look nice but also
attests to the high content of
dyes, mainly anthocyans and
carotenoids. Moreover, “jabłka
grójeckie” are characterised by
the acidity which is higher
than average and appreciated
by consumers and processors
from entire Europe.
Area of production
of “jabłka grójeckie”
and their relation
to the geographical area
The area of production of
“jabłka grójeckie” is located in
central Poland, in the territory
of Warsaw Plain , Rawa
Plateau, Białobrzegi Valley and
Central Vistula Valley. From the
grójeckie” result from, inter
alia, natural conditions in the
area of their production , i .e.
specific microclimate and soil
conditions.
In the region of Grójec, right
before fruit-picking (September,
early October), high temperature
declines, even to 0°C, take
place. The low temperature at
night has a favourable impact
on physiological processes taking
place in apples thanks to which
it is possible to obtain the appropriate
carbohydrate/acid
ratio which has a significant
impact on the delicious taste of
“jabłka grójeckie”.

the local community is
also evidenced by the fact
of the annual celebrations
of the Apple Blossom Festival
and organising the “National
Fruit-Growing Conference”.
Exceptional quality
of “jabłka grójeckie”
“Jabłka grójeckie” are characterised
by the colouration
higher than average and more
intense blush . The beautiful ,
red blush on the apple skin not
centre of the designated region ,
i .e. from the city of Grójec, to
its borders, apple trees are cultivated
in each locality. The
concentration of cultivation ,
reaching 70% in the vicinity of
Grójec, decreases as the distance
to this city increases and outside
the designated area apple
trees are rarely cultivated. That
is why these areas are called
“the largest orchard in Europe”.
The excellent taste and characteristic
colouration of “jabłka
mm and the length of the vegetation
period is about 200 days,
which allows to cultivate most
apple varieties. Moreover, soil
conditions in these areas (podsolic
soils or lessive soils developed
on sands, clays and ice-marginal
deposits, of medium and low
valuation classes) are perfect for
growing apple trees here.
