Producers – Exporters
products, based on the Polish tradition and culture
of nutrition and food, produced under conditions
of food safety assurance systems (HAC-
CP, GHP, GMP, ISO 9001).
In 2004, in the frame of the adaptation to EU
legislation, the programme has further evolved
and changed to the “Discover Great Food”(PDŻ)
opening up for agricultural and food producers
from EU member states and third countries –
present on the Polish – EU market. During
the past years the criteria for granting a
quality mark PDŻ have changed. Many
EU rules on pollution and chemical
contamination of food, food additives,
nutritional and health-related statements
and health and safety issues have
changed. The Consumers are looking for a
high quality products with special characteristics
or produced by using specific
methods of production. Factors affecting
innovation include:
Preference for local and seasonal
products, produced using production methods
that sustain both nature and society;
Issues related to environmental protection,
such as combating climate change, more efficient
management of natural resources such as
water and soil, and preserving the biodiversity;
Promotion of the nutritional value of foods;
Animal welfare and private producing
schemes promoted by groups working for animal
welfare cooperating with farmers, retailers
and scientists.
Marking with a quality mark “Discover
Great Food” is a distinction of the product by
the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development
and the information that helps consumers
choose agri-food products of high quality,
meeting the specific features of trade quality
or commercial quality requirements. PDŻ character
with a distinctive white and red logo is a
guarantee of high quality, addressing both the
final product, as raw materials for its production.
Thus, the objective of the European Union
policy is pursued in terms of food,
which is expanding the area of
high quality and variety of food
on the internal EU market.
Programme of the “Discover
Great Food” quality mark refers
to the following groups
of agri-food products: meat
and meat products, milk and
dairy products, fish, seafood
and their products,
eggs and processed
egg products,
honey, consumable
fats, processed cereals,
legumes and root
crops; fruits, vegetables,
mushrooms and
their products, pastry
and confectionery, herbs
