2 nd Congress of
Agricultural Sciences
Two years ago, in May, the 1 st Congress of Agricultural Sciences was held
in Puławy. It was decided back then that the next meeting would be held in
2 years. Another, 2 nd Congress was held on 5 th October 2011 in Warsaw. The
leading idea of this edition, organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural
Development, was: “National strategic research schemes for the agri-food sector
and rural areas”.

the 2 nd Congress of
Agricultural Sciences
When opening the session, the Minister
of Agriculture and Rural Development
pointed out that: “The 2 nd Congress of Agricultural
Sciences is held in the special year, the year
of our Presidency and also the year in which an
attempt is made to carry out a great reform of
the Common Agricultural Policy. I cannot imagine
any reform of this policy without participation
of the world of science, without participation
of Polish science. Once the European
Commission presents the legislative package on
the CAP, I warmly encourage the entire Polish
scientific community to participate actively in
evaluating these suggestions and not only in a
form of reviews. I expect active, innovative suggestions.
It is the high time for us, from Poland,
to tell entire Europe, clearly and bravely, that
the world needs more and more healthy and
safe food. Europe cannot be indifferent to that.
Europe cannot support reforms in the spirit of
stagnation, conservation and paying for the production
readiness, cannot make the entire world
believe that it does not want to participate in
the global growth of food production”. The Minister
also appealed to the scientists that, once
the Legislative Package is presented, they should
