Polish Presidency in the EU
EU Ministers of Agriculture
and Fisheries in Wrocław
Common Agricultural Policy should be simple, fair and development-oriented
– it is the opinion of the Minister Marek Sawicki. All EU Ministers of Agriculture
participating in the September meeting upheld this opinion.
Informal meeting of the Council of Ministers for Agriculture and Fisheries,
which took place on 12 th -13 th September this year in Lower Silesia, was organized
within the work of Polish Presidency of the EU Council.
The first stage of the two-day meeting were
site visits. “I want to show my EU colleagues,
how beautiful and extensive our agriculture
is, how good is our food produced from indigenous
raw materials, produced in harmony with
nature and respecting the environment”, said
Minister of Agriculture and
Rural Development Marek
Sawicki, when welcoming
EU ministers who came
to Wrocław. Minister Sawicki’s
guests were also:
Commissioner for Agriculture
and Rural Development Dacian Ciolos and
Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and
Rural Development of the European Parliament
Paolo De Castro.
Participants of the meeting had the opportunity
to visit four unique places in Lower Silesia
voivodship: Experimental Department of Institute
of Zoology – National Research Institute
in Żerniki Wielkie; Museum
of Carriages in Gałowice (in
the municipality of Żórawina);
Jaworek vineyard in Miękinia;
Lesieniec farm breeding pure
blood Arabian horses.
During the visit in Experimental
Department in Żerniki
Wielkie the guests acknowledged
its greatest achievements,
which are highly productive,
unstressed breeding
sows of the “wbp” and “pbz”
breed and their hybrids with
very high slaughtering utility,
and also viewed construction of modern biogas
plant which is rising with the EU support.
“The use of biogas means cheaper energy
and cleaner environment”, said Minister
Sawicki and added
that the program of
development of small
biogas plants in Poland
will lead to better use
of alternative sources of energy.
The next part of the programme was visiting
the Museum of Carriages and handicrafts
presentation in the municipality of Żórawina.
Granary in Gałowice is a counting collection
