NIAF Special Achievement Award in Women’s Leadership<br />
Emma Marcegaglia is the first woman appointed president<br />
of Confindustria. She is also chairman of the LUISS Guido<br />
Carli University.<br />
Ms. Marcegaglia was born in 1965 in Mantova, Italy. She attended<br />
Bocconi University in Milan, where she graduated cum laude<br />
earning her degree in Business Economy. During her studies, she<br />
spent a period of time in New York, where she earned an MBA<br />
from New York University.<br />
Currently, she is the CEO of the Marcegaglia S.p.A., which is the<br />
historic company of her family.<br />
Well known for her commitment to social issues, she is president of<br />
the Areté Onlus, a foundation that supports the activities of Vita-<br />
Salute University of San Raffaele Hospital. She is a permanent<br />
member of the Executive Committee of the Aspen Italia Institute.<br />
Previously, she held other appointments within Confindustria,<br />
such as: president of Confindustria Young Entrepreneurs, from<br />
1996 to 2000; vice president under the chairmanship of Antonio<br />
D’Amato, from 2000 to 2002; and again vice president since<br />
2004 under President Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, with<br />
responsibility for the coordination of energy, industrial and<br />
environmental policies.<br />
She was vice president of Confindustria for Europe and president<br />
of yes (Young Entrepreneurs for Europe).<br />
In 2001, she married Roberto Vancini, a computer engineer.<br />
They have a daughter, Gaia. Her main hobbies include biking<br />
and mountain activities.<br />
