The Anthony Campitelli Endowed Fund
—
NIAF is pleased to administer the Anthony
Campitelli Endowed Fund grants.
The Fund supports various humanitarian and community projects in and
around Mr. Campitelli’s birthplace, Castel Frentano in Italy’s Abruzzo
region. Such projects include the restoration of schools, maintenance
of churches and assistance in elderly care facilities. Grant recipients are
selected based on need and merit.
Mr. Campitelli immigrated to the United States with his mother
and sister in 1928, joining his father here. He later became known as
a prominent architect and builder in the Washington, D.C., area. No
matter his great successes and esteemed position in Washington, he
always maintained strong ties to his homeland, providing financial
support to many of its local institutions over the years.
The 2011 Anthony Campitelli Endowed Fund Grant Recipients include:
Libera Associazione
Invalidi Civili (LAIC) –
Workshops for Caregivers
The Libera Associazione Invalidi
Civili – LAIC (Free Association
of the Civilian Differently
Able) of Castel Frentano will
implement a training course
entitled “Performance and Legal
Information for Families and Care
Givers” for lower income families
caring for a disabled person. The
course will consist of 10 four-hour
classes and accommodate up to
50 students per class. LAIC’s
objective is to educate and provide
correct legal and performance
information to families and
caregivers so that they can obtain
help from the government and
understand their rights.
Restoration and Enhancement
Work for the Church
Monte dei Morti e Purgatorio
The Monte dei Morti e
Purgatorio Church is located in
the historical center of Castel
Frentano. It also includes the
Church of Santo Stefano and
the Madonna del Rosario
Church within its complex. The
construction of the church dates
back to the mid-18th century.
Sadly, the religious complex is
in a state of deterioration. Such
restoration work will revitalize it
and reintegrate the structure into
the local and historical identity
of Castel Frentano.
Studio Arts Center
International (SACI)
Studio Art Centers
International (SACI) wants to
provide a unique, life-enhancing
study-abroad experience for
students of both traditional and
contemporary studio art. Their
objective is to bring a small
group of U.s. students from
SACI to work with partner
students in the Abruzzo to
photograph and document in
the region. The aim is to bring
talent and encouragement to
the young in this region which
has been damaged by recent
earthquake and emigration,
especially of the young. The
end project would be to put on
a group exhibition in Castel
Frentano’s theatre, with the help
of the Comune.
