latest “Paisan Watch” – now that we’ve learned that leaders<br />

at the Washington-based <strong>National</strong> <strong>Italian</strong> <strong>American</strong><br />

<strong>Foundation</strong> are slamming California GOP Assemblyman<br />

Don Wagner of Orange County for questionable remarks<br />

about <strong>Italian</strong>s this week. Silicon Valley attorney Jeffrey M.<br />

Capaccio, who serves as Western vice president for NIAF,<br />

a major civil rights organization representing 25 million<br />

<strong>Italian</strong>-<strong>American</strong>s, said Friday that Wagner’s ‘shocking’<br />

comments ‘reinforced a negative generalization about an<br />

“[Chloe] Hill is one of 34 students from across the nation<br />

who has been selected to participate in the Ambassador<br />

Peter F. Secchia Voyage of Discovery program, sponsored<br />

by the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Italian</strong> <strong>American</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong>, or NIAF.<br />

The program sent Hill on an all-expense-paid trip to the<br />

Campania region in Italy, where she will get to experience<br />

the culture of her ancestors. The programs run from<br />

May 30 to June 8. NIAF Executive Vice President John<br />

Rosa said the organization receives between 500-1,000<br />

applications each year, and selecting students for the<br />

program is a difficult process. The applicants are selected<br />

based on several factors, including their response to essay<br />

questions concerning their ancestry.”<br />

gives participants an opportunity to explore and understand<br />

RECEIVES $5,000 SCHOLARSHIP<br />

“Freshman international business major Michelle Salvatore<br />

may be the only student to walk away from her first day at<br />

the Fox School of Business with a $5,000 check in hand.<br />

Salvatore, of Richboro, Pa., received the 2010 NIAF/<br />

Maaco Enterprises, Inc. Scholarship from the <strong>National</strong><br />

<strong>Italian</strong> <strong>American</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> (NIAF) on her first day of<br />

classes Aug. 30.” NIAF Education Committee Chairman<br />

Matthew J. DiDomenico traveled to campus to present the<br />

award to Salvatore in the lobby of Alter Hall.<br />
