Throughout the year, NIAF works to raise awareness about our mission,<br />

Italy’s unique position globally, the numerous achievements of <strong>Italian</strong> <strong>American</strong>s<br />

and the role of media in perpetuating stereotypes about our people.<br />

Media Forums in U.S. Cities<br />

This year, NIAF hosted seven stimulating Frank J. Guarini/NIAF Media Forums featuring keynote speakers. The forums<br />

are designed to gain greater visibility and awareness of NIAF initiatives and programs, establish a greater rapport with media<br />

professionals across the U.S. and allow members of the media to consider important issues facing <strong>Italian</strong> <strong>American</strong>s today.<br />

Chicago– february 2<br />

Neither sleet, snow nor gale winds kept<br />

NIAF from hosting journalists and<br />

prominent <strong>Italian</strong> <strong>American</strong>s during<br />

Chicago’s third largest storm on record.<br />

“Celebrating Italia - its history, culture<br />

and innovation” was the theme of the<br />

eighth media forum at the Hilton<br />

Chicago. Timed to honor the 150th<br />

anniversary of the unification of Italy,<br />

Victoria Isley, senior vice president of<br />

marketing and communications for<br />

Destination DC, Washington, D.C.’s<br />

tourism office, traveled to Chicago and<br />

spoke about the <strong>Italian</strong> cultural citywide<br />

festival in D.C.<br />

Los Angeles area, the 150th anniversary<br />

of the unification of Italy, and a special<br />

tribute to the late Joseph R. Cerrell,<br />

a former NIAF vice chairman and<br />

president, who recently passed away.<br />

Harrison discussed the historical and<br />

cultural ties to Italy as well as its profound<br />

influence that continue today throughout<br />

the world-fashion, art, culture and<br />

technological innovation.<br />

NIAF) vice chairwoman, delivered the<br />

keynote address at the Celebration of the<br />

150th Anniversary of Italy’s Unification<br />

on April 7, 2011, at The Freedom Tower<br />

NIAF Chairman Jerry Colangelo came<br />

to Arizona 43 years ago on March 1,<br />

where he continues to be a leader and<br />

advocate for the <strong>Italian</strong> <strong>American</strong><br />

February 28, 2011, Colangelo again<br />

welcomed journalists of <strong>Italian</strong> ancestry<br />
