Overview
Each workstep takes input data, transforms or manipulates it, and creates output data.
The data may be chained through the workflow so that the output of one step may be the
input to a following step.
A process in Petrel is an operation the end user performs on data. Processes typically take
input and produce output, either creating new results or updating existing data. Processes
are standalone operations and cannot be chained together.
You can use the Ocean API to create both custom worksteps and custom processes. Both
techniques extend the processing options available to the end user.
Workstep
A workstep can be any non-interactive data processing operation. Worksteps are typically
small in scale. They tend to be discrete operations that can participate in different
workflows.
