The Ocean Module
The Ocean Module
The Ocean framework allows product families to expand their capabilities through the use
of Ocean modules. The Ocean module is managed by the Ocean Core and has a defined
lifecycle. Its lifecycle phases serve to license the module, initialize and integrate it into the
product family, add presentation interfaces, and remove all these when the module is
unloaded. The appearance and interaction is seamless allowing the product family to treat
the module as native code.
The lifecycle phases of the Ocean module have certain requirements and restrictions that
allow the clean integration into the product family. A license may be checked out during
module construction. In the initialization phase, the module registers services it provides
to the Ocean framework. During integration, the module acquires services it needs from
other modules or the framework. In the integrate presentation phase, the module adds
user interface components to the product family on which it is running. When the product
family is shutting down, the disintegration phase clears the user interface components.
Finally, during disposal the license and unmanaged resources are released.
An Ocean module uses the functionality provided by the product family, the Ocean
Services, the Ocean Core, and also the .NET architecture. It may also use third party
application assemblies and other modules.
