Case Details:<br />

Victim Krishne Shetty, aged 48 is a resident of Harohalli village under Mandya district. He is married to<br />

Putta Lakshmamma and has five children. On 28 February <strong>2008</strong> the victim was walking <strong>on</strong> the village<br />

road and suddenly a police assaulted him with his lathi and pulled him down. The victim was alleged of<br />

being involved in the assault that occurred in the village, in c<strong>on</strong>necti<strong>on</strong> to a kabaddi match. The police<br />

had simply assaulted the villagers also, who were in the panchayat office without sparing the aged<br />

people. Krishne was trying to move away from the place but the police compassed him and subjected<br />

him to severe assault. Thus they created a scene of terror at the village. Krishne seeks justice against<br />

such acts of the police.<br />

Victim Krishne Gowda, aged 46 is a resident of Harohalli village under Mandya district. The victim is<br />

married to Mangala and has two children. On 28 February <strong>2008</strong> many villagers had gathered in the<br />

panchayat to discuss <strong>on</strong> the issue of assault <strong>on</strong> a village boy named Shivakumar. There were nearly<br />

400 people gathered there including Krishne Gowda. Suddenly police arrived at the place including the<br />

KSRP Force. They threatened the villagers to vacate the place and began charging with lathis. They<br />

didn’t spare the aged pers<strong>on</strong>s either. As Krishne Gowda was trying to escape he was surrounded and<br />

severely beaten up. The police also threw smoke bombs, which fell <strong>on</strong> the electric transformer and the<br />

power supply went off in the village. Thus the police assaulted every<strong>on</strong>e in the village as it was very<br />

dark. They pulled out some people from their houses and took them to the police stati<strong>on</strong>. Krishne was<br />

injured all over his body particularly hips, thighs and hands. He couldn’t walk properly even after 15<br />

days. N<strong>on</strong>e of the villagers dared to go to the hospital in fear of the police who were patrolling around the<br />

village. The police <strong>on</strong> the other hand state that they were trying to curb the disturbance created by the<br />

people of Hiremarali village who were disturbing a wedding functi<strong>on</strong>.<br />
