husband. When Sangeetha told that he had gone abroad the SI slapped her demanding her to produce
him at the station the next day. The following day the victim was taken to Mylapore Police Station where
she also found the recovery agents of the cell phone company. The police and the agents demanded
Rs.1 Lakh 10 Thousand as the balance amount for the SIM Card which her husband had purchased
before going to Dubai. The police threatened her to the extent that she mortgaged her jewels and gave
them Rs.30,000. The police demanded the remaining amount, under the threat of remanding her.
Case Details:
The victim Muniyamma belonged to Kallar Community and she had two sons. Her elder son Rajsekar
was involved with several criminal cases. The victim Muniyamma and her younger son Rajkumar
were innocent. Rajkumar was working as a load man. On 12 th March, 2008 about seven policemen
from Andalpuram Police Station had gone to the victim’s house and have arrested her elder son
Rajsekar.
When the victim and her younger son had gone to the police station to meet her elder son, the police had
made them wait at the police station till her elder son revealed the truth about the stolen jewels. The victim
Muniyamma and her younger son were illegally detained at the police station for two days and then
released.

The victim Venkatesan was a resident of Thiruvetriyur and he belonged to Adi-Dravidar community. On
20 th February, 2008 he had attended a demonstration organized by the DPI. After that, he had waited for
his friend at the check post with his two-wheeler.
On seeing his friend, the victim Vernkatesan had tried to stop his two-wheeler but he lost his balance and
had fallen down. The SI had locked his two-wheeler and had snatched the key. When the victim had
asked for the key, the SI had abused him with filthy words and had demanded Rs 300. When the victim
had questioned the SI, he had beaten him with batons and abused him by his caste. Later the victim’s
friend had spoken to the SI and then he was released.
