Case Details:
The victim Seenivasan was a resident of Ponmalaipatti village. He had worked in the brick kiln with his
wife. Prior to the incident, the police of Vaniyambadi had gone to the house of the victim in his absence
and had beaten his wife. The police alleged that she sold arrack and had dragged her to the police
station after outraging her modesty. So the victim Seenivasan had sent complaints to the higher officials.
The police were enraged by that and had taken the victim from his house forcefully. The police had
detained him at the police station and have abused him with filthy words. The police have meted torture
and then remanded him to Vaniyambadi Sub-Jail.

Case details:
Victim Kaneesh Bai, aged 50 years, is the wife of victim Arjunan, aged 56 years, and the mother of
victim Senthil Kumar. Arjunan works as a clerk at the Cooperative Bank and is furthermore trustee of
the Narayanswamy temple, situated at a village named Viannur near Kannanore (Kanyakumari
District). The family, who is belonging to the Nadar Caste community, is living at Udayarvilai near
Kannanore (Kanyakumari District). Victim Selvaraj works as an advocate.
A disagreement occurred between Arjunan and some neighbours of the Narayanswamy temple
regarding the broadening of a path next to the temple. Unable to compromise, Arjunan filed a civil case
at the Padmanabapuram Civil Court with Number 22/2008 and another case at the Madurai Bench of
the High Court with Number W.P. No. 496/2008. These cases were still pending in the courts on the
date of incident.
