In the year 2007 the police filed again a false case against the victim’s son Ramesh Babu and his friends
and were charged to pay a penalty of Rs. 6000/- at the K.K. Nagar police station. On 9 th April, 2008 at
midnight a team of 25 policemen entered Ramesh Babu’s house and started beating Varunkumar,
Ramesh Babu’s younger brother. When Jeyanthi asked the Inspector why they beat her son, the
Inspector furiously called her an old log. He slapped on her left cheek with his right arm. Further he
kicked on both of her knees with his booted legs. Jeyanthi unable to bear the pain lost her balance and
fell down.
Then, the police took Jeyanthi and her son Varunkumar to the Rajamangalam PS and filed a pick pocket
case against Jeyanthi and her mother and remanded both at the Vellore jail. Her son Varunkumar was
remanded to the Cuddalore jail. Later, all of them came out on bail arranged by Ramesh Babu.

Case Details:
The victim Ansari resided at Kalkulam Taluk in Kanyakumari District. He belonged to the Muslim-Lebbai
community and worked as a Computer teacher. On 15 th July 2008 Ansari went to Coimbatore to
purchase spare parts for his computer. Since his wife is not with him he locked the bedroom and took the
key with him.
When he returned, he was shocked to see the door and the locker being opened. Ansari went to the
Thakkalai police station to lodge a complaint about the theft. The next day, the SI accompanied by a
constable visited Ansari’s house. On the way the SI said to Ansari that he should have stolen the jewels
and if he was put under investigation he would tell the truth. Afterwards both the SI and the constable
conducted an enquiry with Ansari in the same room. During the enquiry the SI asked him how many
sovereigns the bride’s parents gave at the time of the marriage. Ansari replied that he did not know about
that since he had not asked for any dowry during the marriage. The SI giggling called him a thieving
bastard and they asked him if he really did not know about how many sovereigns of jewels his wife gave
during the marriage and if he would believe this. They blamed him for selling all the wife’s jewels and for
staging a drama to the police. Then the SI and the constable conducted an enquiry with his wife and
mentally disturbed both of them.
