In today’s dating landscape, it’s practically unheard of to go out with a new
guy without having online-stalked him first. So we were fascinated and wanted
to try this out with three of the most popular dating apps known to gay
men. So we set out to find the right guy and see
what types of guys are on each of them, plus we
wanted to see what it was like going on a blind
date with one guy that wasn’t from the virtual
world. The types of apps —Grindr, OkCupid,
Scruff.
DATE #1
HOW THE
APP WORKS
Once you’ve downloaded
Grindr and set up an account,
the next step is filling
out profile and getting your
picture approved. After that
you can see the radius of
men in the area. This app
really doesn’t match anybody,
merely a picture of
either a persons face or for
those who are afraid —just
their chest /member. Before
Lee could take a look to see
who caught his eye, the men
of Grindr started to message
him like a fresh piece of
meat. He only has about 2
photos of himself that were
just selfies (fully clothed).

THE DATE
After uploading myself, I was a little
scared to even talk to anybody on
there. Guys came in a lot of different
guys fof different shapes and sizes
and they all messaged me either
looking for sex, saying hi, and evening
trading picks.
One guy really stood out
to me. He was clothed, no penis/
shirtless pics, or his idea of a first
date was really sweet. We talked

for hours chatting about life
and what we want to do in the
future, a conversation I hadn’t
had contact with for the longest
time. BTW, his name is *Jared.
Tall, blonde, somewhat built
and great smile. Yes, that seems
what everybody looks for these
days, but can’t help myself.
After a week of exchanging
elegant words together,
it was decided that we both
needed to see each other face to
face. A little nervous I had my
straight guy friend come over
and help me find the right look
that said, “I am very much interested
in you”.
The local bar was the place to
meet, both of us knew where it was,
so there was no way that he could
be late. I was the first to arrive and
ordered myself a “Manhattan”. As
the jumping leg was going off under
neath me, “Lee?”, turning around
and looking at Jared we shook hands.
The night was young, meaning that
it was only 10pm. Throwing back
a few drinks between us, I noticed
throughout the evening he kept
taking out his phone and checking
somethng, then putting it back in his
pocket. It really didn’t bother me
until he left if on the bar and messages
from Grindr popped up. Right
then and there I knew that he really
didn’t mean what he said and was
only saying what he’d could to get
me out and probably get me hammered.
Looking at my watch, I told
him that I had to be at work the next
morning, hugged and he walked me
out the door. An hour after the date
he message me a pic of himself on a
bed with a jockstrap on saying that
when I was ready, come on over.
Can you believe some guys!
This guy really had me fooled and
thought I was going to fall for his...
whatever you want call it...”Nasty
Mojo”. Deleted the app from my
phone when I had a moment of peace
and the trama has left my body.
Never again!
THE SCORE
This was my least favorite
app. No only did I not have
a spark with *Jared. But left
me feeling like an idiot for
not seeing his signs.
